Most often we, like our clients, work away from our home base and frequently in testing environments indeed, sometimes in unfamiliar ones. So we have developed a methodology which works for us and for you.
The World’s legal systems are broadly divided into 2 principal groups:
Common law (deriving from an English tradition and now also from North America, Australia and New Zealand, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong and many countries in Africa and the Caribbean -the Commonwealth- whose legal systems were adopted and developed by reason of their close historic attachment to the United Kingdom),
Civil law (most of the rest of the World) and most frequently identified by its codified set of legal principles. We have worked intensively within these systems - (also within the specialised Islamic law systems) - and, we have lawyers who have studied and practiced in both so, we know how to exploit the differences and make them work for our clients.
We do not rely on our own knowledge alone when we accompany you to an unfamiliar legal environment. Over the years we have built up a network of legal contacts upon whom we can call as required, to make sure we get the best local advice. Often, this is more than simply legal advice – interpretations, who you know and where to find what you need to know are essential—and are things that only a reputable local can provide.
Although our practice straddles the world, our business model does not make you, the client, pay the price of an ambition of having an office in every jurisdiction.
What we offer you is something we think is better.
You get our specialist knowledge and understanding of your business needs and our experience of who can give the best advice on local law. In some cases it has taken years of experimentation to track down the one local advisor who really knows what he is doing.
With the larger, less adaptive law firms, you will get what they offer in local expertise (and we have to admit it is often very good) but, you don’t have the choice that we can deliver nor, the combination of the flexibility of tailoring fee structures, practitioner availability and additional “added value” services that we consider a hallmark of our firm.
We have no ties so we find you the best and the most suited to your requirements.
